Sarah Waters, the award-winning author of Tipping the Velvet, has shown her support to the Proud2Be Project, a campaign encouraging and supporting all LGBT people to be proud of who they are.
The author contributed to the project, which was launched by gay identical twin brothers Mat and Jon Price, with a photo simply stating: “Proud2Be a happy lesbian”.
Jon Price said:
”We started the campaign nearly two years ago when we felt that LGBT people needed more positive and affirmative messages about who they are.
“Although laws are changing, LGBT people, of all ages, still face oppression, misrepresentation and discrimination. Until that is no longer the case, the Proud2Be campaign will keep running. We would like to thank Sarah and indeed all the campaign contributors for their support”
Sarah follows in the footsteps of other famous names among the LGBT community including Stephen Fry, Human Rights Campaigner Peter Tatchell, Sir Ian Mckellen, Christine Burns MBE and Michael Cashman MEP.
The Proud2Be Project invites everyone to contribute to their campaign, whether LGB or T or their friend, family member, co-worker or educator.

Scene was founded in Brighton in 1993, at a time when news stories about Pride protests were considered radical.
Since then, Scene has remained proudly independent, building a platform for queer voices. Every subscription helps us to report on the stories that matter to LGBTQ+ people across the UK and beyond.
Your support funds our journalists and contributes to Pride Community Foundation’s grant-making and policy work.
